History

  1. 1967 On 3 April the pa’anga replaces the Tongan pound at two pa’anga for one pound.
  2. 1989 The National Reserve Bank of Tonga is established on 1 July and receives the exclusive right to issue currency.
  3. 2023 Tonga introduces its first polymer 5- and 10-pa’anga banknotes.
