History
- 1948 The Maldives puts its first rufiyaa banknotes into circulation on 5 September; the initial series is dated 1947.
- 1981 The newly established Maldives Monetary Authority takes over exchange-rate policy from the government.
- 1994 The exchange-rate regime returns to a peg against the US dollar in October.
- 2011 In April a trading band permits movement of up to 20 per cent on either side of a central rate of 12.85 rufiyaa per US dollar.
