  1. 1971 The Central Bank of The Gambia takes over the assets and liabilities of the Gambia Currency Board, and the currency is decimalised at 1 dalasi to 100 bututs.
  2. 1971 The dalasi replaces the Gambian pound at 5 dalasis to 1 pound.
